Curtains are usually made of lightweight fabric and are common in kitchens, bathrooms, and areas that are not used for entertaining company. Drapes are usually lined and designed to open and close with a cord, but curtains are generally not lined and are typically opened and closed by hand. Drapes are usually pleated at the top, but curtains are usually gathered.
